A man accusing of selling drugs from his Elmwood Park apartment was arrested Thursday evening while watching television and smoking marijuana at home, police say.
Carlos Toscano, 37, of the 7400 block of West Fullerton Avenue, was arrested at 6:52 p.m. April 2 after a search warrant was executed at his basement apartment. He was charged with Class X felony manufacturing and delivery of cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school, park or church; possession of cocaine; possession of a controlled substance; two counts of manufacturing and possession of marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Elmwood Park Police Cmdr. Robert Klisz, who oversees the department’s detective’s unit, said they had received several complaints from neighbors about drugs allegedly being sold out of the apartment.
“When residents give us information like this, we follow up on it and then we take action,” he said.
He said Toscano did not put up a struggle. Elmwood Park police made the arrest with help from the West Suburban Enhanced Drug and Gang Enforcement Task Force.
Elmwood Park Deputy Police Chief Andrew Hock said this and other drug investigations and arrests are all part of the department’s zero tolerance policy when it comes to dealing drugs in the village.
“It’s Elmwood Park Police Department’s ongoing diligent effort to combat drug activity in the village,” he said. “If you want to come into Elmwood Park and sell drugs, you will have us knocking on your door, and it’s not going to be good if we do.”
