About 9:30 p.m., the person, whose age and gender was not immediately available, was fatally struck by a Union Pacific Northwest line train between the Palatine and Barrington stations, said Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile.
The person was struck near Quentin Road and Colfax Street by Train 725, which left downtown Chicago about 8:30 p.m. for the northwest suburbs.
The train was delayed for more than two hours after the incident, and another train was also delayed. Train 725 resumed service about 10 minutes before midnight, according to Metra.
