Sedef Alkan, a graduate of the Tricoci University of Beauty Culture, recently opened iZel Salon in St. Charles at 11 N. 3rd Street, behind The Filling Station. A ribbon cutting on March 25th celebrating her grand opening was attended by university founder Mario Tricoci.
Alkan had been working as a receptionist in another hair salon for seven years prior to going to beauty school. “I have always loved to do hair and nails for friends and family,” says Alkan. As a single mother of three, Alkan knew that having her own place would allow her to work flexible hours.
A lot of research went into setting up the salon, including choosing a name. The name iZel (pronounced Ezel) is a Turkish word meaning ‘a trace left by hands’. The salon is elegantly decorated in purple, black and silver and was designed by Alkan.
“I wanted everyone to feel like they deserve to be pampered as soon as they walked in the door,” says Alkan, who describes her salon as a high class spa with a comfortable pricing scale.
iZel is a full service salon offering haircuts for men and women along with chemical services and Redken color treatments. “I am also certified to do extensions,” says Alkan.
Threading, waxing, facials and massages are just a few of the spa treatments available at iZel. Nail services include both manicures and pedicures from a simple color change to paraffin treatment, nail design and No-Chip polish.
A full service menu and pricing is available on the iZel website at izelsalon.com. Alkan encourages clients to try iZel by offering a generous 20% off services for first time customers. iZel also carries a line of hair care products available for sale in the salon.
Computer Repair moves to Sandwich
It’s been a busy two weeks for the folks at On-Site Computer Guy. In March, the company celebrated its 10th anniversary. After starting in their home in 2005, owners Kim and Lincoln Ekle moved their company to a storefront in Hinckley six years ago.
Last week, On-Site Computer Guy moved to their new location at 135 S. Main St., in the heart of downtown Sandwich. “We love the small community feel in Sandwich,” says Kim Ekle. The new 2,000 square foot facility is bright and welcoming with space for employees to sit and talk to their customers.
On-Site Computer Guy offers both residential and commercial computer sales and service. “Our strong point is hardware,” says Ekle adding that they also build computers to fit your specifications. Other specialties include data recovery, networking and tutoring, which is explained in layman’s terms.
Their on-site service is available in Sandwich, Plano, Yorkville, Sugar Grove, Elburn, Aurora, Oswego, Montgomery and surrounding cities. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on April 17.
