No.

Not a chance.

Never.

I will not donate money to Donald Trump. It could happen. He’s pretty sneaky.

I had a thought Trump might try after I read an Oak Leaves story about donation boxes. Seems donation boxes are somewhat of a problem in Oak Park. These 7-feet-high metal boxes have sort of sprouted up throughout the village, about 20 of them, mostly in vacant lots.

That’s enough boxes to set village trustees to considering regulations. An ordinance would require that any organization, firm or other entity that wants to set up a donation box in Oak Park to apply for a one-year permit to operate in Oak Park.

There would be a $75 fee a box owned by a for-profit organization. permits would be free for nonprofit organizations.

Wait just a minute.

Donation boxes for groups that make a profit? Like General Motors? British Petroleum? Burger King?

I can see why Oak Park would like to help nonprofits — Good Will, Salvation Army, etc. — but why would the village want to facilitate profit-making concerns?

And why would we Oak Parkers want to donate our plaid sports coats with the wide lapels and eight-track players to a profit-making venture?

We wouldn’t. Not if we knew the big metal box in question was for a business concern.

That’s where Donald Trump comes in. He could label his box “DT Helpers of America,” or something like that. We’d be none the wiser. We’d think we were doing good. And Mr. Trump would walk away with our toasters that don’t pop up every time, or the hillbilly wooden plaque we bought at a roadside rest stop on our last vacation.

No, I don’t see that allowing for-profit groups to have donation boxes in Oak Park is a good idea at all.

Donald Trump has enough money.
