Finally, fans of “The Walking Dead” can call the show’s upcoming spinoff series by something other than “That upcoming ‘Walking Dead’ spinoff series.” Creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman has officially revealed the title to be “Fear the Walking Dead.”

That would look great on an old-fashioned B-movie poster, wouldn’t it?

The series, co-created by Kirkman and Dave Erickson, is set in Los Angeles and stars Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam-Carey. Nothing has been revealed about the story line, but it is set in the same world as the original “Walking Dead.” Though based on how well-dressed Curtis and Dickens are in the first released images, it’s been widely speculated that the series will be a prequel of sorts.

AMC President Charlie Collier previously dropped a hint about the focus of the new series in a statement, “We’ve been asked questions about what was going on in other parts of the zombie apocalypse, and what it looked like as the world really did ‘turn.’ Through this new series, we’re going to find out.”

Kirkman and Erickson are joined on the new series by “Walking Dead” executive producers Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert and Greg Nicotero.

Much like the original series, which concludes its fifth season on Sunday, “Fear the Walking Dead” will kick off with a short six-episode first season expected to debut sometime this summer on AMC. It has already received a second season order.

Luckily for the actors in this spinoff, they don’t have to film in the humid wilds of Georgia, but temperate L.A. And they don’t even have to be covered with sweat and dirt. At least at first. They’ll probably be covered with blood by the end.

That’s the way these zombie shows go.
