The Chicago Fire plan to add Spanish midfielder Victor Perez to its roster on a short term loan from Segunda División team Real Valladold.

A team source confirmed the deal on Friday but declined to discuss loan length or other specifics. An official announcement was scheduled for Friday afternoon.

One published report suggested the loan would run through June with the option for a six-month extension.

In July 2011, Pérez joined Real Valladolid and scored six goals in 43 matches and helped the team earn promotion to La Liga.

Perez, 27, made a total of 87 appearances and scored 11 goals before joining Spanish La Liga side Levante UD on loan in the summer of 2014.

He also played in the Real Madrid and Getafe youth systems and made his professional debut in 2008.

The soccer web site goal.com reported that Perez was without a team after being removed from Levante’s roster to accommodate the arrival of another player.

Goal .com said that under Spanish Football Federation rules, once a player is removed he can’t be brought back. The report added that the Fire will pay just a fraction of Perez’ salary, last estimated at around 1 million euros, or around $1,093,000.

Perez will be added to the Fire roster pending receipt of a visa and International Transfer Certificate.
