Tonight’s edition of “Real Sports” (HBO, 9 p.m.) documents how former athletes are in a precarious position in the aftermath of suffering injuries while playing college sports. Bernard Goldberg reports schools aren’t responsible for their medical bills once they leave campus.
The story includes an account from former Illinois State offensive lineman Brannon Sanford who has gone through five back and spine surgeries due to football injuries. At the age of 25, he uses a cane to get out of a chair. Last year, he said he was responsible for $10,000 in medical expenses.
