player ready...Chicago Fire forward David Accam will miss Sunday’s home match against the Philadelphia Union after being called up Tuesday by Ghana’s national team for international friendlies in France.
Accam, who made his Fire debut in last Sunday’s 2-1 loss at San Jose, will be the team’s second international player to miss games this season.
He will appear in a Friday game for Ghana against Senegal in La Harve and Tuesday against Mali in Paris.
Forward Shaun Maloney also will be absent Sunday from the Fire. He was named to Scotland’s national team roster and will miss his second straight Fire game. Scotland plays a friendly against Northern Ireland on Wednesday and a UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier on March 29 against Gibraltar.
Off to the worst start in team history, the Fire (0-3-0) have managed just one goal in three games. Midfielder Harry Shipp had a tally in the 29th minute against the Earthquakes last Sunday. The Fire is the only MLS team that has yet to earn a point this season.
The Fire will meet a Union team that’s also winless (0-1-2, 2 points), at 4 p.m. Sunday at Toyota Park.
Also Tuesday, the Fire announced they’ve signed second-round draft pick Kingsley Bryce and added him to the roster. Terms were not disclosed. The midfielder/defender scored 23 goals and added 12 assists in 79 matches in a four-year career at Saint Louis University.
