Area boxing fans can still purchase tickets to the amateur boxing show set for Friday, May 1 at the Libertyville Sports Complex.
Larry Lentz, who heads the Lake County Boxing Club and helps train undefeated heavyweight pro boxer Nick Asberry of Waukegan, has put together competitive night of boxing that will be held on the basketball courts at the complex.
Lentz anticipates at least a dozen three-round boxing matches, many of which will pair exciting young fighters who are looking to have a future in the sport.
At the other end of the competitive scale, Lentz has put together several bouts that are being billed as Badges vs. Bad Guys.
The “Badges” are the good guys in the fights, and those expected to participate include Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz (no relation to Larry Lentz), Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran, Grayslake Police Chief Phil Perlini, and Mundelein Police Chief Eric Guenther.

The “Badges” literally are deep in training so assure winning their bouts.
The event is a fundraiser for Junior Olympics Boxing and for the at-risk yuth program at Mundelein High School.
On May 2-3 at the Libertyville Sports Complex, the Junior Olympics state championships for Wisconsin and Illinois will be held. A part of the proceeds from Friday’s show will be used to send the Junior Olympics champions on to the next level of competition. Other proceeds will be used so that at-risk students who have expressed an interest in boxing can train at Larry Lentz’s Lake County Boxing Club, which is located on the top floor of the Libertyville Sports Complex.
Cost to attend the May 1 show is $500 for a table of eight. Standing-room tickets will cost $30. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception, followed by the boxing matches and likely a lot of victories.
