A St. Charles woman died Sunday evening after crashing her car in a Jewel-Osco parking lot, police said.
According to St. Charles Police Department Public Information Officer Lisa Blackwell, Marianne Hinger, 86, of Hunt Club Drive, was driving through the parking lot of the store in the 600 block of North Kirk Road around 4:25 p.m. Sunday when she stopped her vehicle to let pedestrians pass.
Blackwell said for some reason, Hinger’s vehicle then accelerated. Hinger swerved to the right, striking a median and then a tree. The head-on crash caused damage to the front of Hinger’s vehicle. No pedestrians were injured.
Blackwell said paramedics found Hinger unresponsive. They began CPR and transported Hinger to Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva, where she died.
Police are waiting on autopsy results to determine whether a medical condition played a part in the crash.
