Two men were hospitalized late Friday following a shooting in Evanston.

The shooting happened about 9:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Monroe Street in the northern suburb, said Evanston Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan.

A man shot a 23-year-old man in his leg inside a residence on the block, Dugan said. The 23-year-old man was taken to Evanston Hospital for treatment of his wound, which police say is not life-threatening.

The alleged shooter, a 25-year-old man, also was hospitalized for injuries caused by others inside the residence who intervened after the shots were fired, Dugan said. The man was taken to Presence St. Francis Hospital, and the extent of his injuries were not immediately available.

It was not immediately clear if the alleged shooter would face criminal charges in connection with the shooting. Police said the investigation into the shooting was ongoing as of early Saturday.
