Dozens of local employers, from Monarch Landing to That Pickle Guy, will be on hand for the KidsMatter Annual Student Job Fair, scheduled from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdayin the Residence Hall/Recreation Center on the south end of the North Central College Campus in downtown Naperville.
In addition to potential job offers, the event features mock interviews, resume workshops and internship experiences. The fair, which is funded in part by The DuPage Community Foundation and has the backing of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce, drew more than 1,500 students last year, organizers say.
A resource booklet distributed to all who attend the free event offers interviewing support and other resources for young job seekers. The job fair generally targets people age 16 to 23, but some opportunities are available for 14- and 15-year-olds. Information concerning work permits will be available at the fair.
Also planned at the event is the soliciting of input by 360 Youth Services, which will circulate a brief survey from its booth at the fair. Participants in the voluntary seven-question survey will have a chance to submit anonymous responses via electronic device, computer or paper. The survey is designed to help guide future programs and program formats for the 44-year-old agency as part of its strategic planning process.
Arista nets green kudos
The Hotel Arista, on Naperville’s northwest edge, will soon have a new flag to fly in celebration of its earth-friendly ways.
School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education will present an Earth Flag to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified inn during a ceremony set for 3 p.m. April 9. The Arista is northeast of Route 59 and Interstate 88, at 2139 Citygate Lane.
Recipients qualify for a flag by meeting a series of requirements. They must undergo a green audit, to assess the environmentally beneficial initiatives in place; staff must receive training in areas including recycling and resource conservation; an active recycling program must be in place; and the organization must sponsor a waste- or energy-reduction activity.
