A burglar is targeting Fox Valley Dunkin’ Donuts shops from Aurora to Yorkville to Oswego, and police are working together to crack the case.
According to Oswego Police Department Chief Jeff Burgner, around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday a thin man dressed in all black smashed-out a window and entered the Dunkin’ Donuts in the 3000 block of Orchard Road wearing a covering over his face.
He stole an undisclosed amount of cash before running away, Burgner said. The incident was caught on video surveillance.
Local police departments believe the same suspect is responsible for burglaries at other Dunkin’ Donuts in the area.
Police from St. Charles, Aurora, North Aurora, Yorkville and Batavia are all working on the Dunkin’ Donuts cases.
Aurora police are investigating two incidents that took place this month at Dunkin’ Donuts shops and appear to be committed by the same masked man.
On March 9, around 12:44 a.m., someone broke a window and entered the shop and stole an undisclosed amount of cash.
Early Monday morning, around 1:59 a.m., someone attempted to break a window at a Dunkin’ Donuts in the 2900 block of Kirk Road, Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.
Yorkville Police Department Deputy Chief Larry Hilt said officers are investigating an attempted burglary that occurred Tuesday night in the 1400 block of North Bridge Street. A white male pried open a back door to gain entry to a Dunkin’ Donuts, but took nothing, Hilt said.
In Batavia, a similar masked suspect hit a Dunkin’ Donuts in the 2000 block of West Wilson Street around 1:28 a.m. on Monday. In and out of the building in under two minutes, Det. Sgt. Shawn Mazza said the suspect left the shop with nothing in hand.
“He targets the office where the cash would be,” Mazza said of the burglar.
But, once he realizes he can’t access the cash quickly, he typically flees the scene, Mazza said.
On Monday, a similarly described suspect broke into a St. Charles Dunkin’ Donuts in the 2000 block of Lincoln Highway. Police said the man gained entry though a back door, and that an undisclosed amount of cash was taken.
