When Honey Butter Fried Chicken opened in 2013, it was hard to imagine a more delicious sequence of words could be strung together. Until this week, when the Avondale restaurant announced a spring takeout promotion featuring this mouth-watering combination: fried chicken fried rice.

On Tuesdays when the restaurant (3361 N. Elston Ave. 773-478-4000) is typically closed, customers can enter through the back door from 5-9 p.m. and place takeout orders for fried chicken fried rice takeout meals. The special kicks off Tuesday, March 31 and continues through April 21.

Each meal ($13.75) includes a pint of fried chicken fried rice along with a housemade egg roll and fortune cookie. Takeout service shuts down at 9 p.m. or when meals sell out; beer will also be available for purchase while you wait.

Featured ingredients will change weekly; the March 31 batch of fried rice will feature sansho-dusted fried chicken, roasted edamame, toasted seaweed, preserved blood orange and sesame cracker crumble. The egg roll will feature glass noodles, cabbage seasoned with five spices and pickled shiitake mushrooms served with sweet chili-mustard sauce. Future menus will be released on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
