A Chicago man with a history of trips to prison has returned there again after being sentenced to 16 years for brandishing a knife at a Batavia convenience store in 2014, Kane County court records show.

Antwann Hunt, 28, pleaded guilty to armed violence in December. Prosecutors said Hunt had the knife when he entered an East Wilson Street store with plans to rob the clerk.

Hunt initially faced armed robbery, aggravated battery, resisting a peace officer and other charges at the time of his arrest. Police said Hunt briefly led officers on a foot chase and injured one of them during a subsequent scuffle.

Hunt, who was found with a knife, also was accused of leaving three small children alone in a Batavia apartment while he went to the store, police previously said.

Hunt is currently being held at the Stateville Correctional Center in reception while awaiting placement in another facility. He has served prison terms on four other occasions, with sentences ranging from three to nine years for robbery, battery and obstruction of justice, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections.

As part of his sentence, Hunt was given credit for 251 days spent in Kane County Jail.
