In the wake of controversial remarks by designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana (of the fashion house Dolce & Gabbana) regarding the children of same-sex parents and in-vitro fertilization, angry celebrities launched a campaign to boycott the brand. One Chicago chef is taking a stand too, but with a positive goal in mind.

Art Smith, Oprah Winfrey’s one-time personal chef, restaurateur and cookbook author, and his husband, Jesus Salgueiro, will host a brunch to celebrate family equality at his Chicago restaurant, Table Fifty-Two (52 W. Elm St., 312-573-4000) noon to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Smith and Salgueiro, who are fathers to four adopted children, will match all restaurant sales during brunch with donations to the Family Equality Council, an organization that supports equality for all parents, including those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.

This isn’t the first time the couple has taken a stand against anti-gay comments. In 2013, Smith responded to remarks made by Barilla pasta head Guido Barilla about keeping gay couples out of the company’s advertising by removing all Barilla pasta from his restaurants and hosting a “Take the Hate off the Plate” brunch at his own home.
