Naperville journalist Dolly McCarthy is the newest voice coming over the airwaves of WCKG AM 1530.
“The Dolly McCarthy Show”, hosted by the award-winning TV personality and veteran broadcaster, is known for its focus on local issues, nonprofits, military veterans’ issues and voices from the community. McCarthy, a Chicago radio reporter and former CLTV news anchor, is an avid volunteer with extensive involvement in numerous area nonprofit organizations. Until recently, her eponymous show has been streamed only over the Internet.
“I’m thrilled to be on WCKG!” McCarthy said in a news release. “It’s quality programming and now a place on the radio dial where folks can hear a true local gal. I’m really excited to hear from the show’s growing audience there.”
McCarthy lives in downtown Naperville with her son, a freshman at the University of Wyoming, and four daughters, who attend Naperville District 203 schools.
“The Dolly McCarthy Show” airs at noon Sunday. For other broadcast times and more information, visit wckg.com/schedule.
Chambers teaming up for event
Business owners from Naperville will be among those taking part in a multi-chamber event scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 26 at Bobak’s Signature Events in Woodridge.
Entrepreneur Dave Alwan of Echo Valley Meats Inc. will deliver the keynote comments, addressing the process of launching his own business and bumps he encountered on the road to success. An expo spotlighting 40 area businesses is planned prior to Alwan’s presentation.
Third generation in a family-owned meat business, Alwan struck out on his own to start Echo Valley with his wife, Dawn, in 1998. The couple have grown the company from its start as a traditional meat market to include wholesale products, a mail-order gift catalog, a fundraising division and gourmet catering.
Dave Alwan also auditioned for the ABC television reality show “Shark Tank.” While he didn’t secure a deal, the experience opened new doors. Online sales at Echo Valley increased significantly after his appearance, and Alwan received numerous public speaking invitations.
“Dave Alwan is a motivational speaker who understands what it’s like to take calculated risks and work hard to reach your dream,” said Jill Eidukas, director of the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce, which is coordinating the event. “This event also provides an opportunity for phenomenal networking.”
