A routine traffic stop in Naperville proved anything but routine for a Lisle man and his twin brother.
Naperville police stopped a vehicle for speeding near the intersection of North River Road and West Ogden Avenue, on Monday, according to police.
Officers checked the license plate and found revealed the vehicle was registered to a Victor Espinoza, 30, of Lisle, according to Sgt. Steve Schindlbeck of the Naperville Police Department.
Records indicated Espinoza did not have a valid driver’s license and also had an outstanding warrant.
“The officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver, who identified himself as Victor Espinoza,” Schindlbeck said. “Upon their arrival in the jail, the driver maintained his name was Victor Espinoza but he signed his paperwork as Carlos Espinoza.”
Schindlbeck said a records check revealed that Naperville police had previously arrested a Carlos Espinoza, also 30, of Lisle, and there was a valid outstanding warrant for his arrest as well. Booking personnel retrieved the booking photo of Carlos Espinoza and confirmed the suspect in custody was actually Carlos, not Victor.
When Victor Espinoza showed up to pay the bond for his twin brother, he was arrested as well. Additional charges were filed against Carlos Espinoza for obstructing identity and failure to appear on the previous arrest.
