At least three men were shot since Thursday night in separate shootings on the city’s South Side.
A 33-year-old man was in critical condition after he was shot in the face in East Pilsen on the city’s Lower West Side.
About 11 p.m., the man was in a parked car in the 1700 block of South Jefferson Street when a gunman opened fire, police said.
The man was taken to John H. Stroger Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. Police said the man had documented gang ties. They were still investigating the circumstances of the shooting early Friday.
Following the shooting, police canvassed the block and alleyways with flashlights as detectives inspected a sedan in which the driver’s window had been shot out. A small group of people stood behind the yellow police tape. They said they heard about seven shots followed minutes later by the sound of police sirens.
“They came right away,” Lilia Miranada said of the police.
Miranda, who lives just around the corner from the crime scene, said shootings are rare in the area.
“I’ve lived here four years, and this is the first time that I’ve heard this around here,” she said of the shooting.
Thursday night’s shooting comes after two men were killed Saturday night on 18th Street in Pilsen. In that incident, a gunman walked up and fatally shot 22-year-old Santos Bueno and 18-year-old Johnathan Ramirez as the two men sat in a parked car in the 1000 block of West 18th Street. Police did not say early Friday if the two shootings were related. At the time, police said Bueno had documented gang ties.
Just after midnight, two men were shot in a separate shooting in the Park Manor neighborhood.
The men, ages 20 and 21, were outside near West 73rd Street and South Lafayette Avenue when they heard gunfire and felt pain, police said.
The two drove themselves to St. Bernard Hospital where they were both treated for gunshot wounds to the back of the right shoulder. Both men were listed in good condition, police said.
