A Plainfield man has been charged with felony aggravated battery to a child after authorities say he struck his infant late last month.
Plainfield police responded to Edward Hospital about 1:30 p.m. Feb. 26 in reference to an injured infant, according to Sgt. Mike Fisher.
The baby’s father, Travis J. Rayburn, had been taking care of the child that day while the mother was at work, according to Fisher.
Rayburn told police he “lost it” when the baby would not stop crying and admitted to slapping the child in the head and face, Fisher said.
The baby had redness and visible bruising on the head, Fisher said, adding that he did not know the child’s current condition.
Rayburn was arrested at the hospital and transported to the Will County jail, according to Fisher.
Rayburn, 42, of the 24500 block of West George Washington Drive, also was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery, according to the Will County Sheriff’s Office website.
He was ordered held on $100,000 bail, according to the site, and remained in jail as of Thursday.
Rayburn also was ordered to have no contact with the child and must not come within 1,000 feet of the residence if he makes bail, according to Will County Circuit Court records.
He also was banned at the hearing from possessing any firearm or “dangerous weapons,” according to court records.
The sheriff’s office website and county circuit court site show no other legal records or arrests for Rayburn.
