Two people died when a semi collided with a car during a foggy Tuesday evening near Rochelle, authorities said.

Rochelle fire officials responded to the accident around 5:55 p.m. near Route 38 and Dement Road, Rochelle Fire Lt. Dave Sawlsville told WGN-TV. Rochelle is located about 80 miles west of Chicago.

Sawlsville said a car, which carried six people, was extensively damaged. Two people died in the crash, according to the Illinois State Police officials. Their ages, genders and names could not be immediately confirmed.

One person was taken to Rochelle Community Hospital, and three other people inside the car did not suffer any injuries, according to Sawlsville.

The driver of the semi was not injured, according to Sawlsville.

No additional information was immediately available.
