An Aurora woman came home Wednesday afternoon to find an intruder in her home and her jewelry missing, Aurora police said.
Police said the woman, who lives in the 2200 block of West Barrington Drive, called police around 2:30 p.m. to report that she thought someone was inside her home.
The victim told police that when she returned home she noticed the basement door was open, which she found odd. She said she called out for her sons, but they did not answer. Police said the victim went into the kitchen and noticed a shadow out of the corner of her eye. Then, she hear footsteps running on the main level of the home.
Scared, the woman ran to a neighbor’s house to call police.
When they investigated the scene, police found footsteps in the snow leading to a window well cover that had been removed and a broken basement window.
After he entered the home, police said the burglar went into an upstairs bedroom and stole about $800 worth of jewelry.
