Looking to start a conversation with new Fire midfielder Shaun Maloney? Start with books. His reading list mostly consists of nonfiction, although he has a soft spot for a certain boy wizard.

Last great book you’ve read?

“Norman Mailer, ‘The Fight.’ I’m starting to have a real keen interest in the boxing of that era, obviously with Muhammad Ali coming through. The book was superb. It was the first Norman Mailer book I’ve read and I don’t think it will be the last.”

Best book about an athlete you’ve read?

Andre Agassi, “Open.” “The first chapter of that, as a sportsman, hits you pretty hard. You can relate to it.”

Book you’re most embarrassed to say you’ve read?

“I certainly read all the ‘Harry Potter’ books. There was a period in my early 20s where reading those books was great escapism, but I’m not embarrassed about that. At the time everyone was raving about ‘The Da Vinci Code.’ I was a pretty strong advocate not to read it, and then I read it and it was actually very good.”
