Aurora police said the men, 24 and 25 years old, were in a blue Ford Expedition around 1:08 p.m. in the area of Evans Avenue and Hamilton Street when the shots were fired.
Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said someone inside a red and brown Ford Expedition fired a gun and struck the victim’s vehicle at least once, shattering a rear window.
Ferrelli said the vehicle that was shot turned northbound on Broadway and the vehicle from which the shots were fired drove off southbound.
Shortly afterward, a Kane County deputy spotted the vehicle that was shot as it failed to stop at a stop sign at Downer Place and Highland Avenue. Ferrelli said the deputy followed the vehicle through several West Side streets before Aurora police began following the vehicle near Illinois Avenue and Edgelawn Drive.
The vehicle was stopped in the 800 block of Heatherstone Lane where police talked to the men.
In addition to the vehicle being struck by a bullet, Ferrelli said two buildings, one in the 600 block of South Broadway and one in the 600 block of South River Street, were also struck by bullets during the incident. Two vehicles parked in a lot in the 600 block of South River Street were also damaged by gunfire, police said.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Aurora police investigators at 630-256-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000.
