Wilmette police arrested two men in separate incidents Feb. 26 and 28 and charged them with possessing stolen vehicles and other crimes, including several stemming from earlier Wilmette house and auto burglaries, police said.

Both arrests were triggered by citizen complaints that were not related to the events for which the two were charged, Wilmette Police Chief Brian King said March 2.

Police arrested Levertis C. Williams, 22, of the 1400 block of Grey Street in Evanston, just before 6 a.m. Feb. 26 on the 500 block of 7th Street, after officers responded to a complaint from a neighbor about a suspicious man trying to open the doors of cars parked on the block, police said.

Williams was eventually charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, one count of residential burglary and two counts of automobile burglary. He was held on a $10,000 bond. His next court date is March 17 in Cook County Circuit Court in Skokie.

On Feb. 28, police charged Jerry Glenn 44, of the 100 block of Prairie Avenue in Wilmette, in connection with an incident that ended shortly past 10 a.m. near his residence. In that case, dispatchers got a call about a motorist driving a black Jeep through stop signs near the intersection of Park and Gregory avenues, police said.

Wilmette police reported that Glenn was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle after investigators traced the Jeep and discovered it was stolen and involved in a hit and run accident in Evanston. Glenn was held on a $20,000 bond. His next court date is March 6 in Skokie.

When police stopped Williams a short time after getting the resident’s call, they discovered he was driving a Land Rover that was stolen overnight Feb. 21 or 22 from the 900 block of Ashland Avenue, police said.

Williams allegedly had items with him that had been taken in several earlier incidents, including a residential burglary that took place on the 700 block of 9th Street sometime between 8:30 a.m. Feb. 25 and 5:40 a.m. Feb. 26, police said.

In the latter case a resident said her purse and wallet were taken from a back door hook in her house; the door had been left unlocked overnight, police said. The loss included credit cards and U.S. and Canadian money.

Police reported finding goods from two auto burglaries that were reported overnight Feb. 25 and 26: one on the 700 block of Lake Avenue in which an iPhone, a camera and cash were taken, and a similar incident on the 800 block of Greenleaf Avenue in which two Chicago Blackhawks game tickets were taken. Both vehicles were unlocked, police said.
