Vermont hoop woes
The Vermont Catamounts’ women’s basketball team will take a 5-23 record into its conference tournament, but a bright spot has been the play of freshman guard Sydney Smith.
The Vernon Hills grad is averaging a team-best 13.4 points. She’s shooting 42 percent from the field and is 63-for-182 (34 percent) from the 3-point line. She also leads the team in blocked shots (30).
Smith’s longtime teammate at Vernon Hills, Lauren Webb, reportedly had her freshman season at Bowling Green University ruined by a torn ACL in December. She played in just seven games.
