The Fire wrapped up an unbeaten, if low-scoring preseason with a 1-1 tie with Vancouver in Saturday’s Simple Invitational finale at Portland’s Providence Park.

Shahdon Winchester, a trialist with the Fire from Trinidad, scored in the 90th minute to force the the 1-1 tie. Vancouver grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first half off a header by Pah Modou Kah.

Winchester took a feed 40 yards away from Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted and sprinted towards the goal line and launched a shot past Ousted into the lower right corner.

Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson worked all 90 minutes and had three saves. Ousted had four saves.

The Fire (1-0-4 in the preseason) managed three goals through five preseason games, with one other coming on a Portland own goal in Wednesday’s 1-1 tie.

The Fire return home next week for a few days of local training and are scheduled to depart later in the week for their 2015 Major League Soccer season opener on Friday in Los Angeles.

Rosters are scheduled to be finalized on Monday, pending resolution of a collective bargaining agreement between the league and players.
