Two unions that represent the staff in Indian Prairie School District 204 will host a candidate forum on March 5.

Parents, students and other residents who live within the boundaries of the School District will have the opportunity to meet and question all four school board candidates at the forum which will start at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Waubonsie Valley High School, 2590 Ogden Ave., in Aurora.

The forum is being sponsored by two employee associations in District 204, including the Indian Prairie Education Association and the Indian Prairie Classified Association.

“We have found the candidate forum to be a very valuable way for the public, our teachers and our students to get a chance to interact with the candidates for school board. We are proud to again offer this opportunity to the community,” said Paul Gamboa, forum moderator and president of the IPEA.

The School Board election for District 204 is part of the April 7 Consolidated Election. Four candidates are vying for three open seats. They include incumbents Justin Karubas, Lori Price and Mark Rising as well as candidate Renata Sliva.

The open forum format will provide two minutes for each candidate to make an opening statement, followed by audience participation in an hour-long question-and-answer period. Candidates will then have one minute each to make closing statements.

Audience members and guests are invited to stay after the formal proceedings and talk with the candidates. Light refreshments will be served.
