Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Your attention, please.

I’m on vacation right now, living it up at a Motel 6 just outside Daytona Beach. Tonight I’ll be helping myself to some HBO and perhaps head down to the hotel bar, where I’m told “cougars” are supposed to hang out. I’ll take my camera and post pictures.

Which is good because that allows me to file one of my older, already used, “Derrick Rose is having knee surgery again and our lives are over” columns from the past. It’s amazing how well they hold up.

Here it is from 2011: It’s over. Bulls lose in five to Philadelphia.

No, try this one from 2012: when is derrick Rose coming back? He doesn’t, of course, and sits out the season.

The classic from 2013: Rose suffers a torn right meniscus in November, season over.

I seriously thought I’d never have to write “torn right meniscus” again, but I was wrong.

Because he did it again the other day. We don’t know how long he’ll be out this time, but come on, it’s over.

Their season is of course over, with all due respect to Kirk Hinrich and Tony Snell. Thanks guys. Hey, we’ll also get to see how well Aaron Brooks can fill in the role of, let’s see, over the years … Nate Robinson, C.J. Watson and John Lucas III! (Still out there, by the way! Detroit is looking at him!)

You know, I’m not the guy who says “Boy, the Bulls are going to have to cut ties with Rose” because even I am not that cold, and of course the guy is only 26.

26!

Anyway, I had high hopes for him. Chicago guy and all. I liked the way he tried to make it back. I loved the team he played on, gritty and unselfish. It’s all in the past now.

And by the way, speaking of damaged young men, Patrick Kane! Long-term injured reserve! Twelve weeks.

Check my math, but I think the season’s over in 12 weeks.

Want some more depression? Check that recent NCAA men’s college basketball rankings. How many teams from Illinois on that list? None.

Time for baseball.
