GARY—A 37-year-old Gary woman was stabbed in the head and legs Thursday morning, causing serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.

Toya McLin, who lives in the 1700 block of Maryland Street, was at an acquaintance’s home in the 2100 block of Virginia Street about 8 a.m. when she was attacked, Sgt. William Fazekas said.

The suspect is a woman, Fazekas said, but he declined to elaborate, saying the case is under investigation.

Medics arrived and found McLin bleeding from a wound behind her ear. She was also cut on her leg and had what appeared to be defensive wounds on her hand, Fazekas said.

She was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.
