Mercat a la Planxa (638 S. Michigan Ave., 312-542-3600) is hosting a Spain In Seven Sips ($65) wine tasting from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. March 5.
Executive chef and Iron Chef Jose Garces will highlight seven Spanish wine regions via wine and tapas pairing stations. The event will feature Spanish wine producers Naveran Dama cava from the Penedes region, Nita from Priorat, Numanthia Termes from Toro, Sangre y Trabajadero Oloroso sherry from Jerez, R. Lopez Heredia from Rioja, Bodegas Volver from La Mancha and La Tremenda, a producer from Alicante. The wine vendors will provide tasting notes and vineyard history. The menu includes oysters, bacon-wrapped dates, paella and croquettas. There will also be an eighth carving station manned by Garces, which will feature Mercat’s roasted suckling pig.
