A 24-year-old Geneva native was laid to rest Friday, after she was found dead outside her Lexington, Kentucky, apartment complex earlier in the week.
Madalyn “Maddie” Suchor, 24, a nurse at University of Kentucky Hospital, had been out with her friends Feb. 15, authorities told a Lexington news station. A cab let her out at a nearby apartment building, and she walked to her building, they said.
The coroner told the station there is no official cause of death yet, but it appears Suchor might have fallen and that the area’s cold weather last weekend could have contributed to her death.
On Friday, Geneva’s city flags flew at half-staff in Suchor’s memory, per Mayor Kevin Burns’ request.
“Maddie was a precious young lady,” Burns said. “She was talented, bright and had an extraordinary future … anytime someone so young passes away unexpectedly we all mourn. I believe the humblest way to demonstrate this to her family and sister and brother is by raising our flag half staff. That’s our expression of grief.”
Suchor was a Geneva High graduate and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a nursing degree. According to the University of Kentucky’s College of Nursing Facebook page, she would have completed her residency program next month.
Suchor is survived by her parents, James and Claudia Suchor, of Geneva; a sister, Sarah, of LaGrange; and a twin brother, Joe, of Geneva.
