What a special invitation for all children and adults with special needs.
On Friday, Feb. 20, they and their families are invited to Liberty Bible Church, 824 N. Calumet Ave., Chesterton, one mile north of U.S. 6, for a Winter Fun Night. There will be games for all ages and abilities, face painting and prizes.
The fun is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., so get everyone together. Enter Door C at the church and head for the gym. If you want more details, email Ben at [email protected]. I hope to see there.
In spite of the weather, the show must go on, so the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics went on as planned on Saturday. If it had been any colder, windier or snowy, we’d have been in Antarctica. But brave souls who care about our athletes took the plunge with eyes as big as saucers when they zoomed out to be met with robes and blankets, and raced back into the Valparaiso University Athletics-Recreation Center.
This is the fifth year the plunge has been held at Valparaiso University, and it was definitely the coldest. The Valparaiso University Police Department, headed by Chuck Garber, hosted the event, and many of the students were there as volunteers and plungers.
Once the numbness wore off, pizza and wings were gobbled up, as well as a table full of desserts, compliments of the Porter County parents and volunteers. A sincere thank you to everyone who assisted in any way to help raise dollars so that our athletes can enjoy learning and competing in a variety of sports. You are all special to me, and you’re my pet persons of the week.
Now that the Post-Tribune has had the new format for a couple of weeks, I find myself really enjoying all the news that has been added. It honestly took me a few days to get used to the longer version, but I found my own special way to fold it and still drink coffee while reading all the extra additions, especially more “local” news.
I hope you’re enjoying it, too — and then I hope you have a great day because you deserve it. Thanks for reading. Fly your flag.
