Fourth-grade students at Avon Center Elementary School in Round Lake Beach have been working on a cross-curricular project combining art and science.
The students are first tasked with creating two-dimensional paintings which completely cover a foam-core canvas. Then, they incorporate electrical circuits comprised of copper wire, LED lamps and 3-volt coin batteries. The paintings are the wired with copper tape to create a captivating focal point in the artwork.
Students will also be creating a videotaped overview of their electrical circuits and the artistic process. The video clips, as well as the artwork, will be accessible to parents and visitors through the use of QR codes available during the Spring Art and Music Showcase in April. Parents and visitors will be able to hear directly from the artists about their creations.
