An Aurora man allegedly injured a 7-week-old infant this week after the baby would not stop crying while he was watching “The Jerry Springer Show,” Aurora police said.

According to charging documents, Julian Anderson, 25, 800 block of Garfield Avenue, allegedly squeezed the child and placed his hands over her mouth when she would not stop crying.

Anderson, a relative of the child, took the baby to the emergency room on Feb. 16 for a persistent fever. Staff there noticed signs consistent with abuse, police said. Employees reported injuries on the child’s face and back.

Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said officers began an investigation and learned that Anderson had also allegedly shaken the child in recent days. Ferrelli said the child’s injuries do not appear life-threatening.

Anderson was charged with felony domestic battery and felony aggravated battery, as well as misdemeaor domestic battery, child endangerment and obstructing a peace officer.

Ferrelli said the resisting charge stems from the fact that Anderson allegedly gave police a fake name during questioning in order to avoid being arrested on two warrants. Anderson was wanted out of DeKalb County for domestic battery, and wanted out of Kane County for burglary, Ferrelli said.

Anderson is currently being held at the Kane County Correctional Center in St. Charles.

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is assisting in the investigation.
