Form held on Wednesday during regional semifinal-round play in the Class 3A Antioch Sectional girls basketball tournament, setting up what could be competitive games in Friday’s regional finals, and keeping alive the possibility for a dream sectional next week that would involve area schools Antioch, North Chicago and Vernon Hills.
Friday’s regional-final matchups have top-seeded Antioch playing No. 8. St. Viator from the East Suburban Catholic Conference at 7 p.m. at Wauconda; No. 2 North Chicago facing No. 7 Lakes at 7 at Northside Prep in Chicago; and No. 4 Johnsburg playing No. 5 Regina Dominican on Friday at Elmwood Park.
The other regional that feeds into Antioch’s sectional was a Thursday night game matching No. 3 Vernon Hills against Chicago Latin.
If the favored teams all win regionals, next Tuesday’s sectional semifinals at Antioch will pit Antioch against Johnsburg and North Chicago against Vernon Hills.
In Class 4A, No. 4 Stevenson is alive in the Carmel Regional and will play No. 5 Buffalo Grove for the title on Friday night. The winner will advance to the Palatine Sectional.
The only other area team still playing in 4A was Libertyville, which was scheduled to play top-seeded Palatine Fremd in the Lake Forest Regional final on Thursday night.
