For the second time in two weeks, Wolves senior George Tripkos lost to Maine East senior Mario Pagonis. But Saturday’s 4-3 loss in the 220-pound wrestleback semifinals at the Class 3A Glenbard North Sectional ended Tripkos’ prep career. Tripkos was the only Niles West wrestler to advance to that stage of the sectional tournament.
Pagonis also beat Tripkos 3-0 in the Evanston Regional final on Feb. 7.
Tripkos (29-8) beat Pagonis at the Central Suburban tournament in late January, earning an 8-5 win in the championship semifinals. Tripkos ended up second in the conference.
Niles North
The Vikings didn’t have any wrestlers win an opening-round match at the Class 3A Glenbard North Sectional.
Only seniors Maykel Potros (126) and Calvin Rosenburgh (170) won matches at the tournament.
