MERRILLVILLE—A gunman robbed Fifth Third Bank on Broadway shortly before it closed late Tuesday afternoon.
The FBI, along with Merrillville police, are investigating the robbery, and is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect, W. Jay Abbott, Special Agent in Charge of the Indianapolis Division said Wednesday.
About 5:30 p.m., the robber, came into the back through the rear entrance at 6760 Broadway and ordered the employees to get on the floor at gunpoint, Abbott said in a news release.
He left the bank with an undetermined amount of cash. Abbott said the suspect ran from the scene and did not provide any description of a car involved in the robbery.
The suspect is described is a black man about 6 feet tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He is clean shaven and was wearing a black jacket with light gray shoulders, blue jeans and tan work boots, Abbott said.
The FBI will issue a reward based on results of the information provided, Abbot said in the release.
