Water service is being restored after a water main break in south suburban Dixmoor left some residents without water.
Crews were called about 1 p.m. Thursday after an 8-inch main ruptured in at least two places naer 143rd Street and Spaulding Avenue.
Officials could not immediately say what caused the break but said the main was difficult to repair because it was near a water valve that could not be turned off.

Crews turned all other valves in the village off to slow the flow of water and make accessing the main easier, and as a result, many residents had trickling water or none at all.
Water valves were slowly being turned back on early Friday after crews worked through the night to fix the break.
