No football on Sunday? No problem!

Dads, you can take your children to the Skate on Grand roller skating rink on Grand Avenue in Fox Lake on Sunday. They’ll have a great time, and you’ll be contributing to an important cause in the process.

From 10 a.m. until noon on Sunday, a skating party at the facility is a fundraiser to support 7-year-old AJ Peterson of Round Lake.

AJ is the oldest son of former Chicago Bears running back Adrian Peterson and his wife, Angela. Last summer, AJ was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor known as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma.

Cost to skate for the two hours and rent skates is $10, and proceeds will go to help pay mounting medical bills.

Last month, AJ had one of his wishes come true, as he dressed in a police uniform and was made an honorary police officer in Round Lake.

There is no limit to the number of skaters and their families who can skate on Sunday. The more, the better.

The fundraiser is being put together by the one of the cheerleading squads that is part of Cheer & Dance Xtreme in Gurnee.

The Xtreme program is headed by Stacy McKim, who is the wife of former Chicago Bear running back Jason McKim. Jason and Adrian were teammates and backfield running mates with the Bears for several seasons.

Stacy wants her program to be involved in community service in addition to cheering, so she has each age-group cheer squad hold a fundraising event for an important cause.

The youngest cheer squad in terms of age is holding this event on Sunday.

People who can’t make it to the rink but want to contribute can search for http://www.gofundme.com/AJ-Soars. That is the web page where the public is able to show its support for the youngster.

Now retired from the NFL, Adrian Peterson is one of four people now running the All-Pro Sports Performance physical fitness facility. The others are McKim, ex-Bear Alex Brown, and longtime Waukegan Rob May.

All-Pro Sports Performance shares the facility in Gurnee with Stacy McKim’s Cheer & Dance Xtreme.

In Fox Lake, Grand Avenue is Route 59.
