Former Chicago Bull Rick Brunson could go to trial next month on sexual abuse charges after his attorney and prosecutors said in court Tuesday that a plea deal appears unlikely.
Brunson, 42, has pleaded not guilty to attempting to sexually assault a massage therapist at a Vernon Hills fitness center last April.
In addition to attempted sexual assault, Brunson is charged with sexual abuse, aggravated battery and domestic battery, according to court records.
He is due to stand trial March 9, and his attorney, Stephen Simonian, said Tuesday in a Lake County court appearance that it does not appear there will be a settlement in the case.
Authorities said Brunson used the name of retired NBA star Patrick Ewing when booking a massage at the fitness center after the therapist said she would not accept appointments with Brunson. The woman later sought an order of protection against him, records show.
Brunson, who is free on bond, is not allowed at the fitness center.
Brunson played for the Bulls and several other NBA teams and was also an assistant coach for the Bulls.
