Study tour: Holly Hamilton of Lake Villa participated in a J-Term study tour to Honduras with the college. The “Biodiversity, Brains, and Behavior” study tour was an opportunity for adventurous students to study the ecology of a Caribbean coral reef ecosystem while learning about the evolution of nervous systems and behavior. After becoming SCUBA certified, students learned about unique aspects of tropical coral reef ecosystems. They also learned the taxonomy and neurobiology of marine life from invertebrates to humans.

Foreign study: “The Economics and Science of Rural Development in Guatemala” took students to Guatemala to study rural development practices. Students considered how the sustainability of economic progress depends on its impact on natural systems and on the effectiveness of social institutions that mediate conflicts between the desire for immediate economic gains and the need to protect the natural systems on which long-term economic progress depends. The following local students included Joshua Brandt of Fox Lake, Anthony Jordan of Island Lake, and Konrad Zehr of Lake Forest.

Childhood credentials: CLC was named a Gateways to Opportunity Entitled Institution, which means that it can now offer the Gateway Credential to its Early Childhood Education associate degree graduates.
