God, what a mess, on the ladder of success / Where you take one step and miss the whole first rung

When the Replacements belted out the classic “Bastards of Young,” it’s a safe bet they weren’t thinking it would be as autobiographical as it turned out to be as the band that coulda been something imploded. But the ‘Mats are back, coming to Chicago April 29 and 30th at the Riviera.

The cult favorites chucked it all in Chicago in 1991, and stayed that way until 2013 when Paul Westerberg and bassist Tommy Stinson decided it was time, and just in time for Riot Fest. And because the only thing people love more than a reunion story is a happy reunion story, the band has been enjoying the fame that it never quite grasped in its first go-round.

And irrespective of how you feel about fragmented “reunions,” it’s hard to argue with a band that headlined Coachella.

Tickets for the show go on sale 10 a.m. Feb. 20, via etix.com and jamusa.com. For more information on the band’s national tour, visit thereplacementsofficial.com.
