A 24-year-old man thought he was meeting up for a blind date with an Aurora woman early Monday morning, only to be beaten and robbed by three men once he arrived.

According to Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli, the Willowbrook man was texting someone he thought was a 21-year-old woman after the two met through a site he reached over his smartphone.

Around 1:20 a.m. Monday, after the two had been texting for several hours, they decided to meet at her home in the 1000 block of Woodview Court.

Ferrelli said when the victim arrived he was met by three men, and one was armed with a handgun.

The men allegedly attacked and threatened the victim before demanding cash.

After he handed over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspects, the victim ran away. Ferrelli said one suspect chased the victim from the scene and may have fired one round from his handgun.

Ferrelli, though, said there was no evidence of a shooting in that area, and no shots fired calls had been made.

The victim’s car was stolen during the incident, but was found abandoned a short while later in the 800 block of Asbury Drive, Ferrelli said.

The suspects are described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, and about 150 pounds. One of the suspects wore a red hooded sweatshirt, the second suspect wore a white one. Ferrelli said the third man was wearing a black sweatshirt, as well as a mask.

The victim refused medical attention for cuts and scrapes, but was not seriously injured.
