A judge recently sentenced Chris Aiston, Batavia’s economic development consultant, to three weekends in jail as part of a guilty plea to a misdemeanor driving under the influence charge, according to Kane County court records.
Aiston, 56, was initially ticketed for DUI after a three-vehicle rear-end collision in January 2014. A grand jury indicted him on an aggravated DUI count, a felony, in June because he had at least two previous drunken driving convictions.

As part of his agreement with prosecutors, Aiston was placed on two years of conditional discharge – a lesser form of probation – and ordered to pay $2,200 in fines and costs, as well as to undergo alcohol treatment, court documents show.
Aiston must schedule the three consecutive weekends of jail time before March 19. He is also prohibited from alcohol consumption for two years.
According to the ticket issued, Aiston was westbound in the 1500 block of West State Street in Geneva around 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2014 when he was involved in the crash. The officer who came to the scene noted Aiston’s eyes were red and bloodshot. He refused field sobriety tests and acknowledged drinking an alcoholic beverage to the officer.
Court records and state officials indicated Aiston was previously charged with drunken driving in Kane County and DuPage County in 1986, and again in DeKalb County in March 2000.
Aiston has worked as an independent consultant with Batavia since 2013. Prior to that, he spent approximately four years as development director in St. Charles.
