An employee of an Aurora store has been charged with felony theft after allegedly running a scheme at her register in order to steal cash.

Aurora police said Andrea Griffin, 46, 1300 block of Monomoy Street, Aurora, ended up stealing $841.06 from her Big Lots register between Nov. 13, 2014 to Jan. 30 of this year.

According to police reports, Griffin was confronted by her employer on Thursday morning concerning 24 fraudulent transactions over the course of several months at the store in the 1900 block of West Galena Boulevard.

Police said an investigation into Griffin began after management became suspicious of Griffin’s transactions.

The investigation revealed that Griffin had allegedly been keeping paying customer’s receipts and later scanning them in as returns in order to pocket the cash.

Felony theft charges were approved after Big Lots management agreed to pursue charges, police said.
