Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

We’re in that in-between time, between winter vacation and spring vacation where most of us are here, passing the cold days shoveling snow and hibernating at home at night. If you are stuck in the winter doldrums, look to our area high schools for some upcoming community events guaranteed to entertain you.

This weekend is Carmel Catholic High School’s largest annual fundraiser called “Street Scenes.” According to their website, this is the 41st annual event, which has earned the reputation of being the biggest theme party of the season in Lake County. Each year, Carmel selects a weekend where the entire school is completely transformed into a party-town atmosphere with more than 50 live bands, a huge Las Vegas-style casino, food and drink from popular area restaurants, comedy clubs and the famous Student Show in the Carmel auditorium. This year’s theme is Superheroes, and the event will take place Feb. 13-14, beginning at 6:30 p.m. each night. The casino will open at 7 p.m. You must be 21 or older to attend and the tickets are $25 per person at the door. All proceeds from the event will benefit Carmel Catholic High School. Carmel is located at One Carmel Parkway in Mundelein. More information and a list of the bands performing are available at http://www.carmelstreetscenes.com or call (847) 566-3000.

On Saturday, Feb. 28, Buffalo Grove High School and Stevenson High School have teamed up for their Relay For Life Fundraiser with the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena. That night, the Wolves play Grand Rapids at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $19.50, $26.50 and $36 depending on where you sit, and $4 from each ticket will be donated back to the American Cancer Society for your Relay For Life team you are supporting. There will be a free pregame Fun Fest event that night from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Allstate Arena Skyline Room. In addition, there will be a Wolves Wives Puck Fundraiser, Postgame Skating (no skate rental is provided), and Breakaway Magazine will be given to the first 7,500 fans. Tickets can be ordered by contacting Kayla Yingst at (847) 832-1946 or [email protected]. Tickets must be ordered by Feb. 27. The actual Relay For Life event will take place on June 12; sign ups, donation, sponsorship and event information is available by contacting Sarah Kwak at (847) 317-0025 or [email protected].

Also on Feb. 28, Buffalo Grove High School’s Bison Boosters are sponsoring a “Las Vegas Night” at Fox and Hound Bar & Grill, 910 W. Dundee Road, Arlington Heights. Adults over the age of 21 can attend the event; doors open at 7 p.m. and there will be a cash bar available when gaming begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and includes entry, three hours of gaming, appetizers, a silent auction and a raffle. Tickets can be purchased online at http://www.seatyourself.biz/buffalogrove. Proceeds have enabled the boosters to purchase more than $65,000 of athletic equipment for the 27 school-sponsored sports teams. In addition, the boosters award a $2,000 scholarship annually to one male and one female senior athlete. For more information, contact Bobbi Walker at [email protected] or Jeanne Cleary at [email protected].

Finally, Vernon Hills High School’s Cougar Athletic Boosters are gearing up for its big winter fundraiser on Saturday, March 14, 7 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel in Mundelein. This is the 15th annual event which features dinner, live and silent auctions and a cash bar. Proceeds from this popular fundraiser help to give student athletes the tools they need for effective training, team building and skills development. This popular event has sold out in the past and at last year’s dinner, the Boosters raised more than $40,000. Tickets are $60 until Feb. 28, and $75 after, and tables of 8 or 10 can be reserved. Tickets and more information can be found online at http://www.vhhscab.com or call (847) 932-2022.
