You can thank Danielle Forte for husband Matt Forte’s fashion sense. She said the Bears’ running back was wearing loose sweatshirts and sweatpants before she turned him on to suits and designer clothing. Now Danielle is hoping to have a similar influence on maternity clothing with Danielle Forte Collection.

Launched in December, Danielle Forte Collection features skirts, dresses and leggings made for women to wear during their pregnancy and maternity.

“We had a daughter who I chose to nurse for the first year,” Forte said over the phone Wednesday. “The only downside was finding clothes that were cute that I wouldn’t mess up. I didn’t want to wear tshirts and tank tops constantly. That’s where the idea to create dresses for breastfeeding grew. When you’re a mom, you sometimes don’t feel cute and comfortable. This line does that for you.”

The collection is available online and at upcoming pop-up shops, including Feb. 21 at DLUX boutique in the Noble Square neighborhood.

Forte isn’t the only Bears’ wife to launch a fashion line. Kristin Cavallari – wife of quarterback Jay Cutler – has her own shoe line, Chinese Laundry. Forte said Michi Marshall – wife of wide receiver Brandon Marshall – is looking to open a boutique clothing store in the Chicago area which will feature local designers.

What sort of impact does Matt have on the maternity collection?

“I ask him for his opinion all the time,” Forte said. “I’ll try on the clothes and he’ll tell me what he likes. He’s my little judge panel.”
