GARY- City officials added more snow plowing businesses to its roster and awarded a string of other contracts.
S.A. Roofing, of Valparaiso, and N&T Auto Salvage, of Gary, were awarded $7,000 contracts last week by the Board of Public Works and Safety.
For years, the city has bolstered its snow removal capabilities with contractors. They are paid according to the vehicles they use and the number of hours they work.
The board also awarded home repair contracts through its Community Development Department, which is federally funded. Dunes Construction won a $6,050 contract to work on a home on the 3600 block of Johnson Street. D&R Construction will repair a home on the 1300 block of Wright Street for $19,200 and, the largest contract, for $22,100, went to Myers Buildings to rehab a house on the 600 block of Vermont Street.
In other business, the board awarded a $20,800 professional services contract for Kandice Nicholson to work as an office manager in the Gary Health Department’s information technology office.
The largest contract of the day went to Reith-Riley. For $100,000, the city will get a year’s supply of hot and cold patch to fill in sizable cracks and potholes throughout the city.
