Editor’s note: The Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club highlights a recent Naperville transplant or a resident who has had a significant life change each month.
Meet Christie Clarke
Christie Clarke moved to Naperville from Elgin to be closer to some of her grandchildren.
Where are you from and what brought you to Naperville?
“I moved here from Elgin after 9 years — by way of St. Louis, Kansas City, Greenwich, Boston, Ft. Lauderdale, Nashville, Cleveland, and the Philippines — to be near my family (three of seven adorable grandkids).”

“I’ve been busy getting settled, but so far, I’m enjoying food, movies, camaraderie — sometimes without getting lost! I’d love to see some dancing activities.”
What part of Naperville do you live in, and why do you like it?
“I live in south Naperville in Prairie Ridge. I love the bike trails!”
What are your favorite things to do in Naperville?
“I’m a recent Bikram (hot) yoga ‘convert.’ Who’d have thought that sweating with friends five days a week could be so pleasantly addictive? Also, having had a landscaping business, I love working outdoors — beautifying my little corner of the world.”
What do you do for a living?
“Formerly a certified teacher, I’m now a family communication specialist and speaker. Via Out-A-Box Parenting, I’ve been sharing the best of Love & Logic parenting and teaching skills for nearly a decade. A parenting coach who makes house calls, I was dubbed “The Nanny of Elgin” by The Daily Herald. My workshops, seminars, and presentations are available to schools, churches, corporations, nonprofits and individuals. I speak at libraries, community centers, mothers’ clubs and more. I also train school teachers, the staff at a local behavioral health center for children, camp counselors, day-care personnel, and have provided ongoing parenting classes for the community through a neighborhood hospital group and Boys & Girls Clubs.”
The Naperville Newcomers and Neighbors Club holds a welcome coffee once a month from September through June at the Municipal Center. Contact Sue at 630-904-5629 to learn more.
